CLAUDE TOUSIGNANT "MONTREAL 1976" OLYMPIC POSTER
When Canada hosted the 1976 Olympics in Montreal they commissioned 10 artists from a shortlist of 300 to create posters in honor of the event.
What is especially exciting is that most of the examples from the series had little to do with sport or nationalism. Almost all the posters are abstract works.
Claude Tousignant's (b. 1932) contribution, one of Caviar20's favorites, inspires multiple interpretations:
Is this organized geometric design purely abstract (and a paradigm of Tousignot's style)?
Or is this a clever and stylized representation of a sports field?
Regardless, it's an amazing and highly collectable vintage Olympic poster.
