CHARLES PACHTER "SIMCOE'S ILLUSION" GICLEE PRINT
Charles Pachter’s graphic and confident artworks have confirmed his position in the canon of 20th century Canadian art. Pachter’s most cherished images take archetypes of Canadiana and reinterpret them with an original palette (and often through a humorous lens).
Pachter’s amazing portrait of John Graves Simcoe (1752-1806) pays homage to the first Lt. Governor of Upper Canada. Simcoe founded Toronto, helped establish the city’s first court system but most significantly abolished slavery decades before the British Empire and the Americans even considered it.
