FRANK STELLA "GETTY TOMB" LITHOGRAPH, 1967
Frank Stella became a printmaker in 1967 - "Getty Tomb" comes from his crucial debut year.
These prints were created in Los Angeles at Gemini G.E.L. (one of the top American printing studios).
The graphics from "Black Series" were mostly based on paintings that Stella had created between 1958 and 1965. However one of the major distinctions, and key aesthetics choices, was Stella situated the compositions in the left corner - this placement became a signature motif for his prints for the next decade.
To intensify the impact of the compositions Stella became more conscious of paper and ink choices; buff-colored grounds and metallic inks. (Unlike the lithographs from "Black Series II" which were realized on bright white paper and French Charbonnel black ink)
Caviar20 is excited to be offering this important Frank Stella lithograph. It is the earliest one we have handled to date.
