RYAN MCGINLEY "FIREWORKS" 2001
The photographer of his generation: Ryan McGinley (b. 1977) was the youngest artist to ever have a solo show at the Whitney.
Over the past decade, McGinley has proven himself to be the successor to Nan Goldin and Larry Clark.
Unlike his successors McGinley's work captured the optimism, rebellion and hedonism expressed by friends and lovers in New York City. Artists such as the late Dash Snow and Dan Colen regularly make appearances in his images.
Unlike his successors his images are celebratory, sexy and unapologetic. "Fireworks" is an iconic paradigm of his practice.
n 2007 McGinley was awarded the prestigious Young Photographer Infinity Award by the International Center of Photography.
