FORNASETTI SET OF 8 "PALLONI" SMALL PLATES
Caviar20 specializes in vintage Fornasetti ceramics dedicated to pieces created during his lifetime. Part of our enthusiasm derives from the depth and variety of his oeuvre. We regularly find unknown designs that are both surprising and familiar.
Fornasetti regularly “drew” inspiration from the history of visual culture. He had a relentless fascination with how artists from earlier centuries chose subject matter whether for documentary or more aesthetic purposes.
“Palloni” is Fornasetti at his best and most idiosyncratic. In this collection of 8 small plates, Fornasetti depicts the fantastical accomplishments of ballon and parachute flight throughout European history. The earliest scene is from the 17th century. Each image began as a Fornasetti illustration then transferred to the porcelain plates via lithograph. Each of the plates are then hand-colored and the result is an exceptionally special set of Fornasetti plates.
Typically Fornasetti small
4” plates are monochromatic or gilded. Occasionally they are highlighted
with up to three or four colors. “Palloni” was embellished with a full
palette including red, yellow, indigo, jade green, teal and purple. This
is one of the finest sets of this type Caviar 20 has ever handled.
Hand-colored porcelain. Very good condition. Minor wear to original packaging.
