It is remarkable how many designs from the fifties or sixties not only remain looking contemporary but also continue to satisfy their functional requirements.

De Sede of Switzerland's "UNESCO" chair is a paradigm of a mid-century design's success and incredible longevity. 

The chair, officially called RH-304 after the designer Robert Haussmann, was created for UNESCO's Paris office in the late 1950's. 

The design was so successful it has had several generations of production and is affectionately referred to as the UNESCO chair.

With its sexy tufted seat and back and its chrome body, it is a friendlier and more versatile cousin of the Barcelona chair. 

These chairs are fantastic in a dining, office or entry setting.
