VISTOSI "PHANTOM" 22" TABLE LAMP
Vistosi is one of the most illustrious Venetian glass-making dynasties. The family’s ancestors established their kilns in the mid 17th century but it wasn’t until the end of the following century until they known as “Vistosi”. The company is still in operation today and there is a fascinating account of both their individual history and Italian glassmaking on their website: www.vistosi.it.
After WWII there was a major glassmaking renaissance in Venice and companies like Vistosi created new forms and found new techniques. For the next 30 years incredible glass pieces were made by Vistosi as they collaborated with designers such as Sergio Asti, Ettore Sottsass Jr. and Gae Aulenti to mention a few.
Vistosi’s translucent white glass creations from the early 1970’s are highly sought after by collectors. To the uninitiated, many are surprised that this collection is nearly 40 years old. The pieces, such as “Phantom” pictured above, are incredibly contemporary looking.
