TAHIR MAHMOOD "CHAAND" LAMP, 2011
Since Tahir Mahmood debuted this sculptural and snazzy lamp at IDS 11 it has been one of Caviar20's best sellers.
It is undeniably contemporary yet has a mild retro allusion.
A great example of sustainable design, lamp is handmade by artisans (in Tahir’s studio in Lahore, Pakistan) using Dalbergia Sissoo wood (native to the Indian Subcontinent, often referred to as “Indian Rosewood”).
The lacquered sections are made from a sap-based resin and applied with palm leaves.
The linen shade is similarly hand-made by a Japanese shade maker in southern Ontario.
The designer, Tahir Mahmood is a 21st century creative chameleon; a successful graphic designer, new media artist and product designer.
His designs have been featured in ID magazine, Wallpaper*, the New York Times and Canadian House & Home amongst others.
