ARTHUR SECUNDA "NIDOS CORE" LITHOGRAPH, 1970
Alongside Vasa Mihich, Frank Stella and Rita Letendre, Arthur Secunda (b. 1927) is an artist we at Caviar20 are especially enthusiastic about for his exceptional geometric compositions and dynamic use of color.
Secunda is poised for a rediscovery. While almost every major US institution holds examples of his work, including the MoMA, the Detroit Institute of Art, the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian he has been "off the radar" for decades.
His work is easily recognizable from his highly stylized and otherworldly landscapes evocative of the aesthetics of the 1970's. Because his work from this period, is so evocative of the era it has resonated with younger viewers of today.
Secunda is adept at capturing the striations of colors that appear in nature; but often realizes them in sensual or surreal palettes. He is particularly noted for his iconic interpretations of mountain sunsets.
We hope to acquire more work by this undervalued but fantastic American artist.
