CARLO SCARPA FOR VENINI VASE
Carlo Scarpa is one of the most revered and versatile 20th century Italian designers.
Like his contemporary Gio Ponti, Scarpa began working in architecture before becoming a prolific designer of both functional and decorative pieces.
While some designs were self-produced, Scarpa had collaborated with several furniture manufacturers and glass studios.
His relationship with Paolo Venini was quite fruitful and Scarpa's best designs were executed by Venini.
Together they pushed the boundaries of glass' technical properties and created some of the most sublime examples of 20th century glass.
This vase is a striking example of their collaboration.
The exterior appears to be made of tiny gold flecks while the interior is a vibrant somewhat translucent saturated red. With the slightest amount of illumination the vessel appears to be luminous and alive.
