CHARLES PACHTER "BLUE BARN, GREEN FIELD" PAINTING, 1984
With confident colors and bold lines Pachter synthesizes a symbol of Canadiana.
In this intimate example, there is a wonderful contrast between the sharp graphic qualities of the farm's field and its barn and the expressionist, moody sky.
In a recent discussion with the artist, Pachter explained that he was aiming for a "Group of Seven" stormy sky.
With this reference, we have the intersection of two of Canada's most significant contributors to 20th century figurative painting.
Charles Pachter (b. 1942) is one of the most collected and cherished Canadian artists. His iconic, uplifting and patriotic images have independently earned their place in the nation's museums and the Canadian art canon.
Paintings of this scale are exceedingly rare, as the artist generally works on larger canvases.
