HAROLD TOWN "JOHN & YOKO" LITHOS, 1969
Of all of Harold Town's (1924-1990) "Superstar" prints, his double portrait of John Lennon and Yoko Ono is one of the most iconic and charming.
1969, the year this lithograph was created was a significant time for the couple. They not only married in the spring, but recorded the first Plastic Ono Band's album "Live Peace in Toronto 1969" during a local music festival.
There were more legendary activities in Canada that year including their "Bed-In" in Montreal where they stayed for seven days holed up at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. The protest/spectacle/holiday culminated in the recording of their legendary "Give Peace a Chance" anthem.
And in December they continued their peace messaging with sponsoring billboards around the world that read "WAR IS OVER! If You Want It - Happy Christmas From John and Yoko".
