SOREL ETROG "GHOST" EMBOSSED PRINT
Sorel Etrog (1933- 2014) is arguably Canada's most famous sculptor.
His work can be found in numerous museum and private collections including the Tate, the AGO and LACMA.
His public sculptures can be found on iconic corners in Toronto, Montreal, Israel and beyond.
While Etrog is most famous for his cast-bronze sculptures, he has completed a significant body of work on paper including illustrations and print making.
His aesthetic, and command of the simple line drawing, references both early Modernists such as Miro and Jean Cocteau.
Etrog was elected a member of the Order of Canada in 1994 and two years later became a Chevalier of Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France.
This embossed intaglio is a great example of Etrog's aesthetic and signature form - an ideal starter piece for your collection.
Note: Caviar20 has been in contact with the Sorel Etrog estate to learn more about this interesting work. As preparations commence for the Etrog catalog raisonne more information will come available. This may have been a unique work/unrealized edition printed by Martha Jackson Graphics.
