DAVID LACHAPELLE "MY HOUSE" 1997
In the early 1990's David LaChapelle (b. 1964) ushered in a new era of fashion photography. He created images that were outrageous, creative and celebrated celebrities in a shockingly bold way.
His output during the 90's, and his unabashed fascination of celebrities' hubris and sexuality in hindsight seems to predict the new level of obsession the media and the public have for the famous.
As a teen LaChapelle worked at Studio54 as a busboy. He would meet Andy Warhol who would hire him to shoot for Interview magazine. Within a few years his images would appear in a host of magazines including GQ, Vanity Fair, The Face, Vogue and most consistently in Details.
"My House" is one of LaChapelle's most iconic images. It debuted in Paris Vogue in 1997. Shot in the United States it features the Sudanese supermodel Alek Wek wearing Christian Lacroix.
