DAVID WOODWARD "ELEGY FOR THE LAST BIG FIGHT" 2015
Caviar20 is excited to introduce David Woodward, a promising and multi-talented emerging artist.
Working primarily with collage and drawing, Woodward explores and subverts the parallels between the categorization of the natural world while addressing the visual hierarchies related to gender, sexuality and class.
Using mid-century field guide books and adult magazines Woodward dismantles and recontextualizes power or aesthetic hierarchies creating arrangements both cerebral and surreal to maximum effect.
He has demonstrated early on an exceptional understanding of color and composition; realizing works that are both whimsical and precise.
We first encountered his intricate and intriguing collages at The Artist Project in February (2014).
He was also included in the recent exhibition "Get Noticed" at the Red Head Gallery (Toronto).
Woodward earned his Bachelor of Fine Art from Queen's University (Kingston) and has had work exhibited in Toronto, across Ontario, Montreal and New York.
David Woodward is a highly original young artist who has created a defined visual language and exceptional works.
