DON HOWELL "CONSOLE 157" 2012
Caviar20 is honored to introduce Don Howell’s latest bespoke furniture creation: "Console 157"
"Console 157" is the result of a second commission from a client enamored with Howell's work.
In the summer of 2011, our client ordered a custom D&D bed. Delighted with the results they asked Howell to create a custom stereo console.
Don came up with a unique design: tambour doors with solid-walnut slats that gradually narrowed from the center.
(This required significant experimentation to create a mechanism and track that allowed the graduated width tambours to slide through the curved sides)
The name "Console 157" was given to the piece by the clients when they learned that the handsome tambour doors were made up of 157 individual pieces.
While the overall look of the piece is sober, the construction and details are precise and sophisticated.
The bow handles are remarkably hand-carved. The solid brass feet double as levelers. The rails in the base are connected with dovetail joints.
Prices includes delivery within the Toronto-New York City-Montreal triangle.
