DON HOWELL "RED OAK FAMILY" TABLE
Don Howell’s first career was in fashion, including being a Design Director at John Varvatos for 9 years.
In 2009, he resigned from this major position in order to dedicate himself to studio furniture.
An expert craftsman, Howell has spent the last few years refining and challenging his techniques and aesthetic, slowly hand-making heirloom-quality furniture using the finest hardwoods and burls.
Howel's work is inspired by the precision and passion for wood of George Nakashima, and the clean modernist aesthetic of Harvey Probber and Paul McCobb
Envisioned as a dining table or executive desk, the "Red Oak Family" trestle table comes from timbre felled from his property in upstate New York.
The complimentary four butterfly joints are from weather Red Oak sap wood.
Their coloration is the result of being air dried over a four year period which produced their impressive hue.
Custom commissions realized in the identical wood are possible.
