It is one of our favorite examples of Danish design...and we are excited to have another example of the Hercules pendant light in Chocolate!
If you are familiar with Danish design, or Scandinavian lighting, you have probably encountered the work of Fog & Morup.

One of the most successful (and imitated) producers of domestic lighting, Fog & Morup's creations continue to be cherished decades after they were introduced.

In 1957 the company appointed Jo Hammerborg as their head of design. In a short period of time he established Fog & Morup as a pioneer of modern Danish lighting.

(We can assume that what Edward Wormley was to Dunbar, Hammerborg was to Fog & Morup)

However Hammerborg was not a one-man-show. He believed that “presented with a challenge, designers as individuals or in design groups will achieve their finest work.”

As the company's leader he would establish their commercial and creative success through the appointment of talented Scandinavian designers and architects including Sophus Frandsen, Claus Bonderup and Torsten Thorup, Jørgen Bo, E Balslev, Karen and Ebbe Clemmensen, Sidse Werner, Hans Due and Peter Avondoglio.

Hammerborg’s own sleek, modernist style became a quintessential characteristic of Fog & Morup’s designs in the 1960s and 70s, elevating the company to the forefront of Danish lighting design.

In the 70s Fog and Morup merged with the radical lighting design company Lyfa, though the two brands continued to manufacture and market independently of one another.

We are passionate about both companies, and support this burgeoning collecting area.
