FOG & MORUP "SATURN" PENDANT LIGHT
If you are familiar with Danish Design, or Scandinavian lighting, you have probably encountered the work of Fog & Morup.
One of the most successful (and imitated) producers of domestic lighting, their creations continue to be popular and cherished decades after they were introduced.
"Saturn" is one of Fog & Morup's greatest hits. An understated and elegant example of mid-century Danish design.
While more scholarship needs to be done on Fog & Morup, we do know that this model was designed by Jo Hammerborg (1920-1982).
Hammerborg originally trained as a silversmith and then worked for Georg Jensen for nearly a decade before joining Fog & Morup. From 1957-1980 Hammerborg was Fog & Morup's Head of Design and is credited with many of their most iconic lights.
"Saturn" is a paradigm of both the company's aesthetic and lighting design of the era.
It should be pointed out that Danish lighting is typically made with a very restrained palette. While brass, copper and brushed aluminum are common, accent colors are not.
The central inner ring on this example of "Saturn" is matte fuchsia.
Once illuminated, "Saturn" will cast a very pretty, slightly tinted color light.
An interesting vintage hanging light is the ultimate way to give any space elegance, character and ambiance.
Original "Fog & Morup" sticker label on the inside of the fixture.
