FORNASETTI "BALLOONS #2" 10" CERAMIC PLATE
Fornasetti regularly “drew” inspiration from the history of visual culture. He had a relentless fascination with how artists from earlier centuries chose subject matter whether for documentary or more aesthetic purposes.
“Mongolfiere” (Italian for hot air balloon) is Fornasetti at his best and most idiosyncratic.
In this collection of plates, Fornasetti depicts the history and evolution of the hot air balloon throughout European history.
It must have been a subject that resonated with Fornasetti as he did a second series called "Palloni" - However "Mongolfiere" is far more intricate with its striated cloud backgrounds.
Part of our enthusiasm derives from the depth and variety of Fornasetti's oeuvre. We regularly discover unknown designs that are both surprising and familiar.
We are selling two plates from this series, produced by Rosenthal. See the last picture for the other plate available or click here.
