FORNASETTI "LE BELLEZZE" 10" PLATE
Caviar20 specializes in vintage Fornasetti ceramics, dedicated to pieces created during his lifetime. Part of our enthusiasm derives from the depth and variety of his oeuvre. We regularly find unknown designs that are both surprising and familiar.
We have often drawn the parallel between Fornasetti and Warhol. While Warhol was obsessed with the glamorous female celebrities of his era, Fornasetti was similarly inspired by the goddesses, empresses and opera signers from antiquity to the 19th century.
"Le Bellezze" which translates as "the beauty" is a great example of Fornasetti's work. Julia, from "Themes and Variations" is Fornasetti’s most famous icon while "Le Bellezze" is a gorgeous complementary antidote. This plate is instantly recognizable as Fornasetti, but the rare design that references antiquity adds to the precious factor.
This design also shows what a master illustrator Fornasetti was. The ringlets of hair echo Fornasetti's "Malachite" pattern, one of his most successful and enduring illustrations.
Porcelain. Very good condition.
Italy, circa 1960’s
