FRANK STELLA "V SERIES" LITHOGRAPH, 1968
Frank Stella became a printmaker in 1967 - "Ifafa I" comes from the "V Series" his third body of prints, begun the following year.
Continuing to work with Gemini G.E.L. (one of the top American printing studios) Stella based the compositions on a recent body of work: The Notched-V Series (1964-1965)
This particular work, in this color combination, is quite iconic as it represents the series and is published in color in Stella's catalog raisonné.
Ifafa is the name of a famous beach in South Africa. Like many of Stella's works the title has an inherent ambiguity.
The work can be found in many important museum collections around the world including the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the National Gallery of Australia and the Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam) to mention a few.
Caviar20 is excited to be offering this important Frank Stella lithograph.
It is the second earliest one we have handled to date.
