HANS WEGNER STYLE 'ROPE CHAIR'
A curious element in 20th century design is the phenomenon of imitation and evolution.
A designer will release a product to the marketplace and within time another designer or studio will elaborate on the design improving it or making it more accessible...without it being a copy.
Hans Wegner debuted his "Easy Chair" in 1950. It is a classic of mid-century Scandinavian design.
In the 1970's a cousin of the chair began to be produced in Yugoslavia.
The Balkan version was more versatile and decorative; it could be folded in half and the rope detailing became more visually interesting.
In our opinion the Balkan version is actually more sculptural and has a touch more personality than the Wegner version.
Wegner's chair is still in production and retails for around $3,500.
Another attribute of the Balkan "Rope Chair is that it is far more affordable...
Caviar20 great design and great value.
