JENNY HOLZER "RESPIRO IL TUO" PHOTO, 1999
This particular image epitomizes Holzer's mastery of text and its impact in public spaces. This saying which translates as "I breathe your breath" is highly mysterious and open to interpretations. Is it erotic? comforting? A statement about unity or power structures?
In September 1996, over a three-day period, Jenny Holzer realized one of her first legendary public "projections" occurring in Florence, Italy on the Arno Riverbank.
In the succeeding years the poem/text of "You Are My Own" has been projected/exhibited in public spaces in over 40 countries. This particular version had both Italian and English statements projected.
This work is one of nine images of this seminal and iconic projection that comprises the "Xenon" portfolio.
Holzer has an important exhibition history in Italy: In 1990 Holzer was the first woman to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale.
That year she won the Leone D'Oro - the event's top honor.
During her career, while Holzer has created numerous memorable works, She has produced very few that are domestically proportioned.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire an affordable work by one of the most distinctive artists of the 20th century.
