KENT MONKMAN "PARLOUR PILLOW" 2005

Sold

Kent Monkman is one of Canada's most acclaimed and notorious multidisciplinary artists today.

Hijacking the landscapes and pictorial scenes (reminiscent of the Hudson River School, Cornelius Krieghoff or Paul Kane) Monkman adds a homoerotic revisionist anarchy to Canadian colonial images.

While Monkman is often discussed in relation to George Catlin, he shares an ambition and audacity similar to Attila Richard Lukacs and Joanne Tod.

In addition to his fantastic figurative paintings, Monkman is also active in performance and installation.

The "Parlour Pillow" was created as part of an installation and performance that took place at the Drake Hotel in 2005.

The central image  is a component of the 2004 painting "The Impending Storm".
