LAUREL "MUSHROOM" CHROME FLOOR LAMP
What is the easiest way to add character and ambiance to any room? Vintage lighting without a doubt.
Laurel is one of several American mid-century studios/manufacturers that deserves further scholarship.
They are renowned for a number of enduring lighting creations that are sought-after nearly half a century after their debut.
A quick search on 1stdibs will produce numerous examples. Yet despite their popularity on the secondary market some of their best designs get misattributed to everyone from Kelly Wearstler to Paul Evans.
The “Mushroom” series is one of their best known collections - an opaque white glass shade, that resembles the cap of a stylized mushroom, rests upon an elegant tapering chrome stem that recalls Eero Saarinen's 1955 Tulip series.
The “Mushroom” came in at least three models; two table lamps and this medium-sized floor lamp.
It remains a paradigm of great American mid-century design; simple, striking and sculptural.
