KNOLL 1993 "TOOTHPICK CACTUS" TABLE
Laske is an accomplished industrial designer based in Chicago. His designs have been manufactured by numerous companies including Alessi and Dansk. Laske also worked for several years in Ettore Sottsass' studio.
Knoll produced a broad collection of Cactus tables based on two variations; "Toothpick" and "Saguaro". When it was launched the collection received numerous awards but was never produced in significant quantities. While it remains unclear whether the table is still in production it is virtually impossible to find a retailer offering the "Toothpick Cactus" today. The tables have only made a few appearances on the secondary market and are quickly snapped up after being posted on 1stdibs. Caviar20 loves these rare anti-icons from Knoll.
The "Toothpick" table is one of those rare species born in the 90's that honors the decade's aesthetic without looking nostalgic or dated. The form, and especially the coloring, are evocative of Louise Bourgeoise's brass sculptures from the late 1960's. A great side table with tremendous sculptural presence and created with Knoll's renowned durability and functionality.
The examples of this table available were showroom models and have been in storage for nearly two decades.
Ebonized and gilded maple. Very good condition.
Maker's label with date.
