Nan Goldin's body of work is consistently personal - she documents the romance, tragedy, triumphs and adventures of her friends and lovers.

An interesting characteristic of Goldin's oeuvre is that she will often revisit periods, publishing images a handful of years or even a decade after first created.

This intimate image, was shot and published in 1991. We can assume that the artist felt an immediate affinity to the work and the subjects.

Marion's which opened in 1958 and was located on the Bowery was an East Village institution, a favorite haunt of downtown artists.

In 2008 the legendary restaurant changed hands ultimately leading to its demise.

Like many of Goldin's best images, she preserves the energy, characters and creativity of NYC in the 1980's and 90's.
