NELSON FRENCH "CENTRE ISLAND FOUNTAIN, SHADE 4" 2008
Nelson French is a versatile and inventive photographer working in both the fine art and commercial realms. In the “Shade” series, the artist begins with two identical images and illustrates them creating negative mirrored versions of each other. Besides their subtle decorative power, examples from “Shade” challenge the boundaries of drawing and photography. Ideally exhibited as duos, the works are similarly striking individually. Many viewers liken the central image to the experience of looking into a crystal ball.
Nelson’s work can be found in many personal and corporate art collections as well as the Archives of the City of Toronto. Nelson is a member of Visual Arts Ontario’s Board of Directors and Co-Chair of SNAP! the annual photographic auction for the AIDS Committee of Toronto.
