PAWEL ZABLOCKI "HORSE FROM CASA LOMA" 2009
Pawel earned his MFA in 1987 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, Poland and immigrated to Canada the following year. While originally trained in painting, printmaking gradually became the focus of his artistic practice with an emphasis on intaglio techniques.
“Horse from Casa Loma” is a paradigm of his aesthetic and technical approach to printmaking.
The image features both sharp, machine like traces of etched scratches and organic splashes, both enhanced by smudges of ink left on the surface of naked parts of the plate.
As Pawel explains “My prints are my responses to the magic of everyday occurrences with emphasis on the seductive power of intaglio technique. I’m telling the story of entanglement of reality with the language of representation.”
