ROBERT LONGO "WAVE" LITHOGRAPH
Robert Longo emerged on the New York art scene in the late 1970‘s (alongside Cindy Sherman, his then-girlfriend).
In recent years there has been a strong resurgence in interest and demand for his graphic and iconic work.
When the Metropolitan Museum installed three giant prints from his “Men in Cities” series in their grand entryway in the summer of 2009, it signaled that Longo had secured his place in the American canon.
Longo has a distinctive aesthetic and diverse practice.
A master illustrator and printmaker, his works often begin as drawings executed in graphite and charcoal.
While he has worked in video, his palette is almost exclusively black and white.
“Wave” like “Men in Cities” is instantly recognizable as Longo.
This image is simultaneously elegant, menacing and rich in symbolism.
