RYAN MCGINLEY "SHADOW, NEW YORK" 2000
Ryan McGinley's first body of work, which would lead to international acclaim, documented his friends - a crew of artists, skaters and bad boys in lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.
He depicted the optimism, rebellion and hedonism experienced by friends and lovers in New York City just prior to 9/11.
Skateboards, BMX bikes, naked hijinks and graffiti are the motifs that represent these last moments in New York before that destructive day.
Collectors are most interested in McGinley's first body of work that appeared at his Whitney solo show. – "Shadow (New York)" is a paradigm of his work from his most sought-after period.
