SOREL ETROG "HINGESCAPE DRAWING" 1975

$7,000

In the 1970's Sorel Etrog was consumed with drawing. It was one of the most prolific and focused parts of his incredible output.

During the mid-seventies, Etrog was occupied by exploring two impressive series "Bulls" and "Hingescapes"

Possibly inspired by M.C. Escher (1898-1972), Etrog's "Hingescapes" were architectural, highly intricate and like the best of his work rich in metaphor.

Sorel Etrog (1933 - 2014) is arguably Canada's most famous sculptor. His work can be found in numerous museum and private collections including the Tate, the AGO and LACMA.

His public sculptures can be found on iconic corners in Toronto, Montreal, Israel and beyond.

The Art Gallery of Ontario organized a major retrospective of his work that ran during 2013.

Check out this great slide show by the Globe & Mail featuring the 8 Etrog publics sculptures around Toronto.

This drawing is a rare example of one of Etrog's "Hingescape" drawings to come on the market.
