While Caviar20 focuses on high-end vintage, we also believe in championing excellent contemporary design.

We are excited and proud to be offering Tahir Mahmood’s Mortar & Pestle collection.

For centuries the mortar & pestle has been used to grind fresh spices for culinary or medicinal purposes.

Tahir Mahmood’s interest in this ancient tool extends to the way it is crafted: both parts are made of Dalbergia Sissoo wood (native to the Indian Subcontinent, often referred to as “Indian Rosewood”) and are shaped using the ancient technique of lathe turning.

The collection’s vibrant colors are created with a sap-based resin and applied with palm leaves and is entirely handmade by artisans in Tahir’s studio in Lahore, Pakistan.

The collection of eleven designs was inspired by the Punjabi agricultural calendar.
