FORNASETTI "TEMI E VARIAZIONI" #9 PLATE
Caviar20 is excited to offer this wonderful example from the “Temi E Variazioni” (or “Themes & Variations”) series.
"T & V” is arguably the most recognizable and beloved body of work that Fornasetti produced. He took the portrait of a 19th century opera singer / courtesan and reworked, remixed and re-situated it some 500 times in a wide range of witty and surrealist settings.
The original illustrations were done in the late 1950‘s and early 60‘s. Rosenthal’s edition began in the late 80’s just prior to Fornasetti’s death. As a result the Rosenthal plates are quite sought after since most collectors prefer pieces created during Fornasetti’s lifetime. While the edition continued after his death, we know that Fornasetti approved oversaw this production (unlike some of the more recent creations released by his studio).
“T & V” plates have a strong decorative presence being both surrealist and elegant. They can work in a variety of settings or rooms whether on a stand, table top or hung on a wall.
To see the entire collection of “Themes and Variations” (and to learn about Fornasetti’s genius) Caviar20 highly recommends Rizzoli’s book, “Fornasetti The Complete Universe”, published last year to great acclaim.
If you are a fan of Fornasetti, “T&V” plates are an essential part of a Fornasetti collection. They also make great gifts for the uninitiated. (Aren’t the best presents the ones you want to keep for yourself?)
