VASA MIHICH "3 GRACES" SCULPTURES, 2013
Whether united, or on their own, each sculpture from the trio "3 Graces" exemplifies Vasa Mihich's mastery of color, illusion and acrylic sculpture.
The first "Grace" is "Creativity" and realized in a deep emerald green, with a single sailor blue side. This is a rare color combination for Vasa and is distinctively masculine and understated.
"Beauty" is the brightest and most extravagant of the trio, comprised of orange, fuchsia and powder mint green. This is one of Vasa's signature color combinations and captures the retro-futuristic aesthetic of his hometown, Los Angeles.
Finally, "Charm" - cherry red and sailor blue confront each other creating a purple from their ombre confrontation.
If you are familiar with Caviar20 you probably know that Vasa was a Senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he taught color theory for many years.
For nearly nearly 50 years he has been working in acrylics; whether on canvas or through sculpture.
Vasa's sculptures photograph well, but to truly appreciate these works they need to be observed in person.
