VASA MIHICH "BLUE KRYPTONITE" 2014
The best of Vasa's works, while sculpture, at times evoke some of the best hard-edge abstract paintings from the 1970's - albeit in an illuminated and tactile version.
"Blue Kryptonite" with its subtle angle, at first glance seems straightforward; a thin yellow sliver divides the clear blue form.
When one starts to engage with the sculpture, and examine it from different angles it reveals itself to be quite dynamic as planes of blue, green, yellow and transparent acrylic interact, recede and overlap creating new perceptive forms.
Vasa Mihich is a renowned artist who is known for his sleek, colorful and captivating acrylic sculptures.
A senior Professor of Design at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he has taught color theory for many years.
For nearly nearly 50 years he has been working in acrylics; whether on canvas or through sculpture.
His sculpture, with their different geometric planes suspended in acrylic are dynamic and endlessly fascinating.
