ATELIER VERSACE "PEGASUS" FRINGED PILLOW
In 1997 Gianni Versace was brutally murdered outside his South-Beach home by a deranged young man at the end of a killing spree.
At the time Versace was at the height of his career as his eponymous fashion label was becoming a household name.
(Less than three years prior Elizabeth Hurley wore the famous black safety-pin dress and Versace became synonymous with 90's exuberance)
Despite Gianni's untimely and tragic demise, the Versace label has endured.
An essential element of the brand's visual identity is the reinterpretation of ancient Greek or Roman characters and motifs notably their Medusa head logo and the frequent use of Greek key patterns.
This evocative vintage pillow, in mint condition, depicts "Pegasus" - a winged horse from Greek mythology with divine powers.
According to the legends, Zeus would immortalize Pegasus by turning him into a constellation after his death.
While their is something undeniably glam and over-the-top about many of the Atelier Versace pieces, this example provides a great pop of pattern, mythology and fun.
