Harold Town (1924-1990) is the ultimate chameleon of Canadian art. His ingenuity and creativity have secured his place in the canon.

Town's reputation was established in the late 1950's with a series of unique prints ("Single Autographic Prints") that included elements of collage. He represented Canada at the Venice Biennale in 1956 with these works.

Over the decades, Town continued to reinvent his aesthetic, change medium and mood. To this day he is associated with Painters Eleven, and their introduction of abstract painting to Toronto and beyond, Town was also a dedicated and exceptional printmaker.

Throughout his lengthy career he repeatedly returned to printmaking to create significant and memorable bodies of work.

Caviar20 is especially fond of the "Superstar" series of lithographs.

We have handled several of these gorgeous, timeless and chic works including  Yoko Ono, Charlie Chaplin, and Gracie Slick.

"Superstar" is often considered as the emblem of the series. The character is a composite of Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich and shows how Town was an exceptional draftsman.
