Kenneth Noland (1924 – 2010) is well known for his contribution to the evolution of  American abstraction in the 20th century. Most notably as one of the key figures of the Color-Field movement. Throughout his career he was an active and experimental printmaker, working with different techniques and aesthetics. 

Around 1976 Kenneth Noland began a particularly intense and fruitful period of both papermaking and printmaking at his studios in New York City and Vermont. 

"Blush" is not a necessarily one of his iconic targets, but a study of color interaction. Noland offers the relationships between contrasting or complementary colors, realized in thin yet opaque layers, as each tone reveals its characteristic weight, density, and transparency. Similar to his targets, the circles are slightly irregular as is the density of ink on the surface. 

It is worth pointing out that Noland only created one editioned work with concentric circles in this era, making "Blush" one of the most desirable creations from this important period.
