Nan Goldin (b. 1953) is unquestionably one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century.

A successor to Diane Arbus, her aesthetic and creative approach had a tremendous impact on both the medium and the art world. One of her several innovations was using the "slide show" format in a high-art setting.

As for her images, in the 1980's she documented her social circle, characters often living on the margins of society, in New York City and beyond.

"Joey in My Mirror, (Hornstr.), Berlin, 1992" is one of Goldin's most iconic works.

Both the central character and the 'subject in a front of a mirror' arrangement reappear many times throughout Goldin's work. The mirror is a key motif in her oeuvre. Appropriately, one of her most celebrated publications is entitled "I'll Be Your Mirror" and this image can be found there.

Since 1992, Nan Goldin has released this image in several different formats and it has become both a fan favorite and icon of her oeuvre.
