RYAN MCGINLEY "TIM AND DAKOTA" 2002
The photographer of his generation: Ryan McGinley (b. 1977) was the youngest artist to ever have a solo show at the Whitney.
Over the past decade, McGinley has proven himself to be the successor to both Nan Goldin and Larry Clark.
Unlike his predecessors McGinley's work captured the optimism, rebellion and hedonism experienced by friends and lovers in New York City. Artists such as the late Dash Snow and Dan Colen regularly make appearances in his images.
McKinley's images are celebratory, sexy and unapologetic. "Dakota and Tim" is a classic example of his practice: uninhibited youth at play.
In 2007 McGinley was awarded the prestigious Young Photographer Infinity Award by the International Center of Photography.
