YVARAL JEAN PIERRE VASARELY "MARILYN" 1990
Yvaral (1934-2002), also known as Jean-Pierre Vasarely, was a French artist best known for his works of Op Art, Kinetic Art, and Numerical Art. He is also the son of the renowned âGrandfatherâ of Op Art, Victor Vasarely.
Yvaral co-founded Le Group de Recherche dâArt Visuel (GRAV) alongside fellow kinetic-op art artists Francisco Sobrino, Franchise Morellet, and Julio Le Parc in 1960. The goal of this group was to expand the possibilities of artistic expression. They immediately began investigating a wide range of kinetic and op art effects. Many of Yvaralâs early works from this period resemble his fathers groundbreaking abstractions which created a coherent visual language from simple geometric elements.
In 1975, Yvaral coined the term âNumerical Artâ to describe artworks that were composed according to numerical algorithms and rules. To breath life into this term, Yvaral would program computers to manipulate his works according to the numerical rules/algorithms. This process would render images, even widely recognizable ones (i.e. Marilyn Monroeâs face), into abstract compositions.
Although he digitally manipulated and processed the source imagery, Yvaralâs final works were always painted by hand. This style of work became known as his signature, although he further expanded his practice by delving into collage, mixed media, tapestry, and sculpture.
Marilyn Monroeâs Op Art portraits by Yvaral are arguably his most distinguished and best-known works. He created several variations using Monroeâs famed visage, each based on different patterns and digital manipulations.Â

We can ship anywhere. Typically when we ship within North America we prefer to use FedEx or DHL. To Europe, Asia and beyond we generally use DHL.Â
-Â How much does it cost to ship?
For shipments within North America, we typically charge a flat rate fee. Many items on our site will list the rate. For shipping outside of North America, we can easily provide a quote and will look for the most efficient and economical option.
Most of the items on our site can be easily shipped internationally.
Occasionally we will recommend that an artwork be removed from its frame for shipping. Larger framed works are typically framed with plexiglass. We export over 80% of what we sell, so we are comfortable shipping anywhere.Â
-Â Are there additional taxes or fees?
When a work is valued above $2,500 usd there is a possibility of tax of 0.35%, but this is applied sporadically. There can similarly be an additional fee for customs brokerage and this can range from $20 - $65. US Taxes, duties and customs brokerage are not included in our flat rate shipping. However most of our shipments to the US enter without any additional fees.Â

Yes, we guarantee everything we sell. We can provide both a digital and printed version of our certificate of authenticity.Â
What is your return policy?

Return shipping is the responsibility of the customer. After 8 days returns are given a credit note. There is no expiration for our credit notes.
