DAVID LACHAPELLE "MEAT, LAS VEGAS" 1997
In the early 1990's David LaChapelle (b. 1964) ushered in a new era of fashion photography. He created images that were outrageous with his version of celebrity obsessed surrealism.
As a teen LaChapelle worked at Studio54 as a busboy. He would meet Andy Warhol who would hire him to shoot for Interview magazine. Within a few years his images would appear in a host of magazines including GQ, Vanity Fair, The Face, Vogue and most consistently in Details.
This image, first published in FLAUNT magazine, is a fantastic paradigm of Lachapelle's fearless aesthetic. It has been published in several of his books including the legendary "Hotel LaChapelle" (1999).
