We can't think of an artist more deserving for a reappraisal than Jack Youngerman, one of Caviar20's favorite mid-century American artists.

We carefully restored this dramatic and elegant wall-sculpture from 1972. It is a perfect representation of Youngerman's signature style which combines abstraction with stylized fantasy botanical forms.

Jack Youngerman (b. 1926) is known for his boldly colored compositions that alternate between pure abstraction and highly stylized depictions of flowers or other elements from nature. Youngerman often synthesizes the best characteristics of Robert Motherwell and Ellsworth Kelly creating something highly original and confident. Youngerman's work always feels fresh, vibrant and optimistic. The artist has had a prolific career with major museum show across the United States (and abroad) including at the Guggenheim and MoMA amongst others.

Youngerman studied in Paris in the late 1940's on the GI Bill and was greatly influenced by the European modernists notably the cutout shapes of Jean Arp and the saturated colors and stylized florals of Henri Matisse.

Lately there has been a renewed interest, both from institutions and the commercial world, in re-evaluating artists who were active during the years following WWII to well into the 1970's.

It is always intriguing when artwork demands a relationship with its surrounding. "White Glide" is most impactful when hung on a wall with a color (such as in our Toronto Pop-Up gallery)

Where would you hang "White Glide" for maximum impact?
