Michael Snow (b. 1929) is one of the most remarkable multi-disciplinary Canadian artists.

Snow is renowned for a diverse body of work including experimental films, jazz recordings, sculpture, the "Walking Woman" series and large scale public art.

Perhaps one of the most interesting characteristics of Snow's output is his ability to alternate between creating work that is populist and work that is avant-garde and esoteric.

Like many of Snow's works from his broad output, "Wood Calling" is both esoteric and conceptual, yet has a playful allusion to Pop Art. The distorted shape of the old-fashioned telephone is reminiscent of Cubist art and 60's creations by Claes Oldenburg or George Segal.
Created in 1989, a full bronze version of this sculpture can be found in the Donald Forster Sculpture Park in Guelph, Ontario. Snow has a history of high-profile sculpture in Ontario including "The Audience" at Rogers Centre and "Flight Stop" in the Eaton Centre.
