VENINI "HANDKERCHIEF" GLASS VASE
In the story of 20th century Italian glass Venini is both “The Beatles” and “The Rolling Stones” when compared to their contemporaries.
Venini was not only popular, creative and rebellious but had a tremendous influence on glass-making internationally.
They produced an array of innovative and unprecedented creations in glass notably lighting and decorative objects.
They also realized the designs of many of the leading Italian architects and designers in a range of aesthetics from high glam to post-modernist.
The “Handkerchief” is one of their “greatest hits” and has inspired several generations of both knock-offs and homages in other mediums (such as Massimo Vignelli’s “Handkerchief Chair” for Knoll)
This lovely authentic example, signed on the bottom, is a paradigm of Venini that manages to be both playful and elegant simultaneously.
