Paul P.
Paul P. (b. 1977) is a Canadian artist who has been exhibited internationally and is currently represented by Maureen Paley (London). A noted figurative artist, Paul P. typically works with watercolour and oil.
His aesthetic recalls both late 19th century portraiture and pre-AIDS pornography. His subjects range from the anonymous youth published in adult magazines to his own friends, lovers and family. His works evoke moments of sensual connection as if they were suspended in a memory.  While certain works lean towards illustration in their aesthetic, other works are more expressionistic.
His work was included in the 2014 Whitney Biennial and can be found in the permanent collections of several public collections including the MoMA (NYC), the Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), the Glenbow Museum (Calgary) and the Brooklyn Museum.
