DAVID SHRIGLEY "PRIEST DRAWING" 2006
David Shrigley (b. 1968) is a Glasgow-based English artist who was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2013.
Shrigley is best-known for his black & white drawings that can alternate between being charming, crude or simply bizarre.
While his career has grown within the typical confines of the art world establishment, his overall body of work evokes Outsider Art.
Shrigley often deploys an outsider's perspective and his visions are executed in a basic way, almost stick drawings, that imply that he has no formal training. This ironic naiveté is part of his appeal and success.
While the artist has worked in several medium, he frequently collaborates with top musicians including Blur, Hot Chip and Franz Ferdinand.
Below we have included an image of a massive installation at London's post Sketch Restaurant.
Shrigley will also debut a sculpture entitled "Thumbs Up" on Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth in 2016 - it is one of the most prestigious venues for public sculpture in Europe.
This drawing is a paradigm of Shrigley's aesthetic and humor - at an accessible price point for a rising international art star.
