Jenny Holzer's menacing (and sometimes humorous) "Truisms"  first appeared in 1983 when the artist was invited to participate in a group show exploring the themes and dialogue from George Orwell's "1984".

In today's frightening political climate, any element of humor or mischief inherent in her work has been eclipsed by satire and cynicism.

Over the past three decades Holzer has created an impressive oeuvre consisting of objects, sculpture and public art...often revisiting the slogans and sayings she first embraced in the early 1980's

From marble benches to billboards, Holzer's text-based pieces have provoked the public to consider the power structures that surround us.

The set contains some of Holzer's most famous "Truisms" including:

Lack of Charisma Can Be Fatal

Any Surplus is Immoral

Much Was Decided Before You Were Born

Confusing Yourself is a Way to Stay Honest

Words Tend to Be Inadequate

Money Creates Taste

The "Truisms" stamp set was created in 1991 in conjunction with the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.

This set of six stamps from 1991 is in mint condition. The original ink pad has never been open.

This is a remarkable and affordable multiple by this inimitable artist.
